Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Expanding Double Block and Bleed (DBB) Plug Valve is engineered for safe, reliable, and zero-leakage isolation in demanding pipeline systems. Utilizing an advanced mechanical expanding plug structure, the valve provides simultaneous upstream and downstream sealing with an independent cavity bleed function. This ensures maximum safety during critical operations such as maintenance, shutdown, and system isolation.

Key Features & Benefits

Zero-Leakage Sealing: The expanding plug mechanism ensures a tight, bubble-tight shutoff compliant with API 598 / ISO 5208 Rate A, even under high pressure differentials.
Corrosive & Sour Service Ready: Premium stainless steel and duplex construction offers excellent resistance to seawater, sour gas ($H_2S$), and aggressive chemical media. Fully compliant with NACE MR0175 / MR0103.

High Safety Integrity Design: Engineered to meet API 6D specifications, featuring a certified fire-safe structure (API 607 / 6FA) and an anti-blowout stem design.
Low Maintenance & Long Service Life: The robust internal structure eliminates continuous seat wear during 90-degree rotation, significantly reducing downtime and overall operational costs (OPEX).
Severe Service Capability: Perfectly suited for high-pressure, high-temperature, and erosive fluid conditions.

Working Principle

The valve operates through a precisely controlled, friction-free mechanical expansion system:
Frictionless Rotation: The plug rotates 90 degrees into the closed position without contacting the valve seats, preventing premature wear or scratching of the sealing surfaces.
Mechanical Expansion: Once fully positioned, the internal wedge mechanism forces the plug segments outward, expanding them tightly against the valve body.
Dual Tight Sealing: The expanded plug seals against both upstream and downstream seats simultaneously, achieving true double isolation.
Bleed & Verification: The cavity between the sealing surfaces is vented through the bleed valve. This allows operators to verify zero pressure and ensure 100% safe isolation before downstream work begins.

FAQ

Q: What is a Double Block and Bleed (DBB) Plug Valve used for?

A: It is used for the absolute, critical isolation of pipeline sections. The bleed valve allows operators to drain the fluid trapped in the body cavity and verify that the valve is holding zero pressure before commencing safe downstream maintenance without shutting down the entire system.

Q: What is the difference between DBB and DIB valves?

A: According to API 6D, a DBB valve provides double isolation from both upstream and downstream pressures through two static seating surfaces, with a single bleed function. A DIB (Double Isolation and Bleed) valve utilizes bi-directional sealing seats, providing redundant isolation even if pressure reverses or one side fails. Our standard expanding valves are configured as DBB, but we can customize them to meet DIB-1 or DIB-2 requirements upon request.

Q: How does the valve handle thermal expansion in the body cavity?

A: To prevent potentially dangerous body cavity overpressure caused by thermal expansion of trapped liquid, our expanding DBB plug valves can be equipped with an automatic Thermal Relief System. This safely vents excess cavity pressure back to the upstream side or a flare system.

Q: Can this valve be used in sour gas service?

A: Yes. We offer fully NACE MR0175 / MR0103 compliant stainless steel, duplex, and alloy materials specifically heat-treated and tested for sour ($H_2S$) environments.

Q: What is the typical lead time for an order?

A: Standard production typically ranges from 4 to 10 weeks, depending on the required sizes, pressure ratings, material availability, and order volume. Emergency project lead times can be negotiated.
